The short version
- Whoosh! does not collect, store or share any personal information about you or your child.
- No ads. No tracking. No accounts.
- The microphone is used only to detect breath, on the device. Audio is never recorded, stored or sent anywhere.
- Everything the app remembers stays on the device and is deleted when you delete the app.
Who this policy is for
Whoosh! is a children's app for ages 3 to 8, so we wrote this policy for parents and carers in plain language. It covers the Whoosh! mobile app for iOS and Android and this website. We designed the app to follow the spirit of children's privacy rules such as COPPA in the United States and the GDPR and its rules for children's data in Europe and the UK, by simply not collecting personal data in the first place.
What we collect
Nothing. The app has no accounts, no sign-up, no email field and no chat. We do not collect names, ages, photos, locations, contact details, device identifiers, advertising identifiers or any other personal information. We do not have servers that receive information from the app.
The microphone
- Whoosh! asks for microphone permission so children can play by blowing on the phone.
- The microphone signal is analysed live, on the device, only to tell the sound of a breath from other sounds such as talking.
- Audio is never recorded, never stored and never transmitted. Nothing is kept once it has been analysed.
- You can say no. Every game has a hold-to-blow button that works without the microphone, and you can change the permission at any time in your device settings.
What stays on the device
To work, the app remembers a few things, such as which weather your child picked, game progress, streaks, the garden, which Puff colour and hat are chosen, and the settings and play-time limit a grown-up sets. This information is stored locally on the device only. We never see it. It is deleted when you delete the app. Depending on your own device settings, your phone's backup (for example iCloud or Google backup) may include app data. That is controlled by Apple or Google and your settings, not by us.
Grown-ups zone
Settings, the play-time limit and Calm Insights are in a grown-ups zone behind a parental gate. Calm Insights (streaks, minutes breathed, feelings over time and mood before and after play) is calculated on the device from the information described above. It is not uploaded anywhere.
No ads, no analytics, no third-party SDKs for tracking
The app contains no advertising and no third-party analytics or tracking tools. We do not use advertising networks, behavioural advertising, social media plug-ins or cross-app tracking. We do not sell or share data, because we do not have any.
Purchases
Whoosh Plus subscriptions and the lifetime purchase are handled entirely by the Apple App Store or Google Play. They process your payment and send us no payment details. The app asks the store's own purchase system whether Plus is active, so it can unlock the right features. Apple's and Google's privacy policies apply to what they collect when you buy.
Children's privacy
Because we do not collect personal information from anyone, we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Parents and carers do not need to give consent to data collection, because there is none. If you ever believe we hold information about your child, please contact us at the address below and we will look into it straight away.
Your rights
Under laws such as the GDPR you may have rights to access, correct or delete personal data we hold about you. As we hold none, there is nothing to access or delete on our side. To remove everything the app has stored on a device, delete the app.
This website
This website has no cookies, no analytics and no tracking scripts, and it has no forms. Two things to know:
- The site loads the Fredoka font from Google Fonts, so your browser contacts Google's servers to fetch it, and Google may receive your IP address as part of that request.
- Like most websites, our hosting provider may keep standard server logs (such as IP address and pages requested) for security and reliability.
Changes to this policy
If we ever change how Whoosh! handles information, we will update this page and the date at the top, and we will tell you in the app before any change that affects your child's privacy takes effect.
